September 11, 2001—The Response

Promoting Volunteer Opportunities

Points of Light Foundation & Volunteer Center National Network
The Points of Light Foundation is coordinating nationwide volunteer activities to provide citizens with volunteer opportunities in local communities in response to the present national crisis. Volunteers are urged to call the national volunteer hotline at 1-800-VOLUNTEER or visit www.1800volunteer.org to be connected to a local Volunteer Center.

Points of Light FoundationHelping is Healing Plan for Response
Corporate Volunteers of New York, a coalition of local businesses who either have active employee or retiree programs, has asked the Points of Light Foundation to plan, facilitate, and manage corporate volunteer opportunities. As a result, the Foundation will be providing the New York corporate community with two volunteer opportunities a month starting October 5 to effectively support its community with the help of New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut Volunteer Centers.

VolunteerMatch
The VolunteerMatch website provides listings for organizations and individuals who wish to assist in ongoing relief efforts. Search for volunteer opportunities by contacting the nearest Red Cross or Salvation Army chapter office; donate blood by locating the nearest blood bank; and contribute funds to assist in relief efforts by donating directly through partner organizations such as the Red Cross, Helping.org, and Catholic Charities USA.
