Charitable Giving: September 11th and Beyond

 

INDEPENDENT SECTOR presents findings from a national survey conducted by Wirthlin Worldwide that measures the charitable giving of Americans since the terrorist attacks of September 11. This survey of 1,009 Americans also provides insight into how much more people will continue to give.

Key Findings:

  • 70% of Americans reported some form of charitable involvement in response to September 11

  • 58% gave a financial contribution 

  • 73% of September 11 givers say they will continue to give as much or more than they usually give to other charities

  • 50% of Americans say an economic slowdown will reduce giving

  • 5% reported giving over the Internet
