AT&T
Foundation
The AT&T Foundation will donate $1 million to the
American Red Cross to support relief efforts in New York City and
Washington, DC. AT&T has committed up to an additional
$300,000 in funds to match employee donations to the relief efforts.
The company will also donate $10 million in AT&T long distance
calling cards for use by relief workers in the two cities, and will
provide free long distance service from all payphones in the
affected areas of New York City for the duration of the emergency.
AssetStream Corporation
AssetStream Corporation is offering free use of its online tool
to support disaster relief efforts. The company will waive all fees through
December 1, 2001 to allow donations of stock to make an immediate
difference in the wake of this national tragedy. AssetStream is
working with participating brokers to waive brokerage fees as well.
The
Bush Foundation
The Bush Foundation has contributed $25,000 to the September
11th Fund.
Carnegie
Corporation of New York
Carnegie Corporation of New York will donate $10 million to city
relief efforts. The Corporation intends to work with a number of
organizations that are responding to the needs of those whose lives
were disrupted by the terrorism that rocked New York City on
September 11th. In keeping with its mission, the Corporation expects
to support institutions and organizations that offer assistance to
or work in the area of educational and social needs.
Edna McConnell Clark Foundation
The board of the Edna McConnell Clark Foundation approved a $500,000
grant to The September 11th Fund that is being administered by
United Way and the New York Community Trust.
Cisco Systems
Cisco Systems has made a $6 million donation to key relief
and support organizations serving New York City and Washington,
DC. The company has partnered with the American Red Cross, the
City of New York, and other organizations to help provide support.
The Cisco Foundation is matching employee donations to key relief
organizations and funds. Employees are organizing blood drives
throughout the country.
The
Citigroup Foundation
The Citigroup Foundation is showing its support for the families
of victims of the September 11th disasters. In addition to the
Citigroup Foundation's initial $15 million contribution to the Fund,
employees contributed more than $200,000 in the first week
alone.
Coca-Cola
The Coca-Cola Company, The Coca-Cola Foundation, and its bottling
partners have committed $12 million to be divided between the
American Red Cross National Disaster Relief Fund and local funds in
New York and Washington providing support to essential humanitarian
needs.
Corning Incorporated
Corning Incorporated has donated $100,000 to the American Red Cross
Disaster Relief Fund and $100,000 to the September 11th Fund. The corporation will has also offered a dollar-for-dollar match for
worldwide employees and retirees who donate gifts to the Red Cross
and September 11th Fund.
GE Fund
The GE Fund has contributed $10 million to the Twin Towers
Fund for the families of the firefighters, police officers and other
rescue workers who lost their lives while responding to the World
Trade Center disaster. The GE Fund will also match (on a one to one
basis) GE employee and retiree gifts to the American Red Cross
Disaster Relief Fund—gifts totaling more than $1.3 million so
far. In addition, General Electric is contributing medical
equipment, portable generators, refrigerators (to store medical
supplies and food for the volunteers), and other equipment (such as
safety glasses) for the relief effort.
General
Mills
General Mills is responding with food and immediate financial
support. The General Mills Foundation has contributed $100,000 in
immediate financial assistance to the American Red Cross, and the
company is providing an additional $100,000 in food to emergency and
disaster relief workers.
Hasbro
Children's Foundation
The September 11th Children's Fund was established with an initial donation of $250,000 from the Hasbro
Children's Foundation.
Humanitarian
Medical Relief
Humanitarian Medical Relief is collecting facemasks and
respirators to send to the disaster sites.
Johnson & Johnson
In addition to its donation of medical supplies
to The American Red Cross and other organizations, Johnson
& Johnson is providing $1 million to fund corporate matches of
employee contributions. The
corporation will match contributions at a rate of $2 for $1, up to
$5,000 contributed per employee. Another $3 million is being pledged to The September
11th
Fund, which will go directly to victims, orphans, widows, and
survivors. A special
fund of $6 million is being established to support the needs of
local organizations with strong community outreach, including
Community Health Centers, Mental Health and Counseling Centers,
school nurses, and fire, EMT, and emergency squads.
The Robert Wood
Johnson Foundation
The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation is making an initial
grant of $5 million to help families and communities disrupted by
the recent violence. One of the Foundation's grantees, Partnership
for Caring, has materials on coping with grief on its
website. Its project, Finding Our Way, is a 15-week
newspaper series being distributed free to newspapers nationwide by
the Knight-Ridder Tribune News Service. The Knight-Ridder Tribune
News Service has lifted its embargoes so that local newspapers and
community organizations can immediately gain access to authoritative
articles on unexpected violence and death, coping with death, and
living with loss. The Foundation has also released a report on its

Lilly Endowment, Inc.
The Lilly Endowment of Indianapolis has pledged $30 million to
assist in relief efforts coordinated by the Red Cross, the Salvation
Army, and The New York Community Trust and United Way's September
11th Fund.
Merrill
Lynch Global Philanthropy
Merrill Lynch is committing $10 million to support disaster
relief efforts. As part of this commitment, the firm will
match employee contributions up to $1,500, above and beyond the
annual matching gift allocation, through the Merrill Lynch September
11 Special Matching Gift Fund. In addition, the company is
coordinating additional volunteer and fundraising efforts.
MissionFish
MissionFish is still collecting items for use in needed areas or auction for cash to mobilize volunteers and support activities for recovery from September 11th. The National Communities Fund page of their website shows what has been donated so far as a part of this effort.
National
Association of Chain Drug Stores
The National Association of Chain Drug Stores, through its
30,000 member pharmacies nationwide, has raised over $5 million.
NEC Corporation and NEC Foundation of America
NEC Corporation will make a $700,000 contribution to the September 11th Fund. NEC Foundation of America will make a $300,000 donation to the “Families of Freedom Scholarship Fund,” managed by the Citizens’ Scholarship Foundation of America.
New York
Life Foundation
The New York Life Foundation is contributing $3 million to
the September 11th Fund. The Foundation has expanded its
matching gift program to match contributions made by New York Life
agents, employees, and retirees to the American Red Cross for relief
efforts in all sites of the attack, with a promise of no less than
$1 million in matching funds.
Nike
Nike, Inc., has announced that it will provide cash and product to
assist in relief efforts. Nike will match the first $50,000 in
contributions to the American Red Cross made by employees. A gift of
more than $100,000 is anticipated. Nike is also donating product to
aid members of the New York Fire Department.
Nokia
Nokia, in close cooperation with the International Youth
Foundation, has established a new global fund for the college
education needs of children who have lost a parent or parents in the
unfortunate tragedies of September 11. With an initial corporate
grant of $1 million from Nokia, the fund will provide scholarships
to young people affected by the tragedy, irrespective of their
nationality. Nokia's intent is to ensure a long-term impact by
providing younger generations with the resources they need to
succeed. Nokia will reach out to its employees, partners, customers,
suppliers, and subcontractors to support the fund with additional
monetary donations.
Orange County Community
Foundation
A collaboration of United Ways and the Council of Foundations
has created a single fund as our collective, national response to
the September 11th Crisis. Orange
County Community Foundation and Community Foundation of the Jewish
Federation of Orange County have joined forces with Orange County's
United Way to support The United Way National Response Fund or the
September 11th Fund as it is also known.
One hundred percent of contributions to this fund will be
used in response to this crisis to provide immediate support to
established emergency assistance agencies, such as the American Red
Cross.
Prudential
Financial
Prudential made a $5 million dollar commitment to disaster
relief following the September 11 tragedy. The American Red Cross
was the recipient of $3 million and Prudential has dedicated $2
million to rebuilding efforts. The company has also matched over
$700,000 of employee gifts.
Rockefeller Foundation
The Rockefeller Foundation has committed $5 million to support
nonprofit organizations providing aid and assistance to families and
individuals whose lives were disrupted by the September 11 terrorist
attacks on the World Trade Center. The Foundation's funds will also be allocated to nonprofit
organizations providing protection and support to Arab, South Asian,
and Muslim communities in New York City.
The Tides Foundation and eGrants
The Tides Foundation and eGrants have created the
Tides 9/11 Fund to support both short-term and long-term relief
efforts. This Rapid Response Fund supports relief efforts for the
working poor affected by the incidents of September 11 as well as
peace and justice efforts that focus on the rebuilding of
communities and relationships between people of different ethnic,
racial, and religious backgrounds. To date, more than $250,000 has
been contributed to the fund.
