The Ad Council
The Ad Council has
offered its distribution services to all groups that had important
public service messages to deliver. It also developed a number of
new messages within weeks of the attack, most notably a tolerance
commercial called "I am an American," and a commercial
featuring First Lady Laura Bush on talking to children about the
tragedy.
American
Association of Fundraising Counsel
American Association of Fundraising Counsel and the AAFRC Trust for
Philanthropy have released "What Do Crises Mean for Giving?" which addresses concerns of the philanthropic
community in the wake of disaster relief. In addition, the
organization has released a second report which outlines
recommendations issued by leading philanthropic advisors for
philanthropic organizations, donors, and volunteers as they begin to
contemplate the implications of September 11th's tragic events and
how they should respond.
American
Association of Museums
The American Association of Museums established a section of its
website to assist with distribution of information and resources.
Information posted includes the status of museums in the affected
area, information on disaster recovery, offers of resources and
assistance (space, staff, expertise, etc.) from colleagues in the
museum community, and information on how museums throughout the
country are responding to the tragic events of September 11.

Bar Association
The American Bar Association is providing donors with detailed
information about charities and guidelines regarding tax deductible
donations.
American
Liberty Partnership
Six Internet leaders, touching virtually all of America's online
citizens, have created an online place where people can support
America's overwhelmed rescue and relief organizations. The American
Liberty Partnership was founded by INDEPENDENT

Yahoo!
In a White House ceremony, President George W. Bush unveiled the
new website, www.LibertyUnites.org,
which connects individuals who want to give with organizations that
are providing services and support to those affected by the
September 11 terrorist attacks. Visitors to the site can make a
financial contribution or find out where to go to take a CPR course,
find a counselor, locate a local congregation, or other ways to
help. Since the site's launch, over $91 million has been raised through
online contributions.
Americans
for the Arts
Americans for the Arts is encouraging its members across the
country to focus their activities around issues of arts and healing
to help people process the tragedies of September 11 and envision
hope for the future. The organization is also distributing a
list of 10
Ways to Promote Healing, Civic Dialogue, and Community Building.
The Association of
American University Presses
The Association of American University Presses has created a
resource for reporters, teachers, librarians and general readers,
"Books For Understanding," on its website. It lists
books recently published by its members that supply information on
some of the issues behind the September 11 bombings. The
authors are leading experts in their fields, and the subjects
covered include the World Trade Center, Terrorism, Catastrophe and
Disaster Management, War, Peace and Global Issues, Islamic Thought
and Culture, Islamic Fundamentalism and Islamic States, and
Aviation/Airport Security.
Association of
Fundraising Professionals
The Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP) has issued a warning to
the general public about fundraising scams involving the events of September 11. AFP has also compiled a list of precautions for donors to be aware of when making contributions to any type of relief effort or charitable organization.
Better
Business Bureau of New York
The Better Business Bureau of New York, through the New
York Philanthropic Advisory Service, has been monitoring and
reporting on the activities or area charities since shortly after
the attacks. They are
maintaining an ongoing and regularly updated list of funds known to
be actively soliciting or being solicited for by others.
While all of the organizations identified have not yet been
reviewed, the organization has taken steps to verify the address,
contact information, and tax status of each fund.

Alliance
During this time of great tragedy and loss, many individuals and
organizations have demonstrated their support by making
contributions to organizations assisting in the relief efforts. One
would find it difficult to believe that people would be willing to
mislead and take advantage of the generosity of others in the wake
of such a tragedy. The Better Business Bureau has issued information

The Conference Board
Business Enterprises For Sustainable Travel (BEST), a joint
initiative of The Conference Board and the World Travel &
Tourism Council, has formed an online Disaster and Recovery
Information Clearinghouse in conjunction with The Canadian
Tourism Research Institute of The Conference Board Canada.
BEST's website features information on the initiatives that travel-related
companies around the world are implementing in response to the recent
attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon.
Council for
Advancement and Support of Education
CASE has developed a variety of resources for its members to
help them deal with the tragedy, which are posted on the
organization's website.
The
Foundation Center
The Foundation Center has featured information and articles
on disaster relief efforts through its online newsletter,
Philanthropy News Digest. Staff has posted new articles and
other materials several times a week since the September 11
disaster. In addition, the organization has compiled crisis
response information from over 200 philanthropic organizations
nationwide, and is adding this information to its crisis response
database. The Foundation Center has also helped New York City nonprofits
by making its computer lab and laptop computer available to groups
affected by the attack.
Helping.org
Helping.org, a project of the AOL Time Warner Foundation, is serving
as a central resource for people who want to make a donation to the
organizations providing disaster relief. The site also offers
emergency and family assistance phone numbers.
InterAction
InterAction has created a list of its members providing relief
efforts, which is posted on its website. InterAction has also
developed guidelines on the most appropriate ways to help those
affected by overseas disasters.
The Internal Revenue Service
The IRS has made available the advance text of a new publication,
"Disaster Relief: Providing Assistance Through Charitable
Organizations," explaining how the
public can contact charitable organizations to provide help to victims of
disasters and make a tax deductible contribution.
Louisiana
Association of Nonprofit Organizations
The Louisiana Association of Nonprofit Organizations has responded
to the call for information by adding "Louisiana's
Response" to its new website to highlight efforts in
communities statewide.
Maine
Association of Nonprofits
The Maine Association of Nonprofits has responded to our
national crisis in two important ways. The Association has created a
Message Board on its website for nonprofit leaders to share their
concerns or to post opportunities to get involved, and has promoted
it to both members and nonmembers through its e-mail network. The
Association is also posting a News You Can Use section on its website, containing links to a wide variety of organizations helping in
relief efforts.
March of Dimes
The March of Dimes has inserted a special cover page to its website for pregnant women who feel stressed or concerned about their pregnancy following the September 11th tragedy. Women are encouraged to consult the section of the website that advises "How Pregnant Women Can Help Manage Stress in Their Lives" and clicks through to a
stress and pregnancy fact sheet.
Montana
Community Foundation
The Montana Community Foundation is collecting stories from
its local community foundation affiliates and communities around the
state which have sponsored fundraising events to support relief
efforts. These stories will be distributed through MCFNet Notes,
MCF's monthly electronic newsletter.
Nonprofit
Coordinating Community of New York
To assist New York City nonprofits affected by this recent tragedy,
the Nonprofit Coordinating Community of New York has created a
Disaster Assistance Resource Listings for New York City 501(c)(3)
Organizations. The website serves as a clearing house for
organizations affected to post specific resources needed for
operation. Organizations can also use the website to post resources
that are available or items they are willing to donate.
