September 11, 2001—The Response

Offering Faith and Spiritual Healing

National Council of Churches
The National Council of Churches is compiling resources from its 36 Protestant and Orthodox member denominations and others in the faith community and posting them to its website. The postings are statements of comfort and calls to reflection, an interfaith statement signed by nearly 2,500 American religious leaders (as of September 25, 2001), news of the ecumenical community's pastoral and material response, and study guides and ministry tools.

United Jewish Communities
United Jewish Communities has established the UJC Emergency Relief Fund to assist in recovery, relief, and rehabilitation. UJC's website also provides "Prayers of Reflection and Consolation," assistance in finding counselors, and a sample curriculum to assist schools in developing responses.

United States Conference of Catholic Bishops
The U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops established a "National Tragedy" page on its website. It includes educational materials, as well as information on donating to assist in relief efforts.
