Applications Open for American Express NGen Leadership Award and NGen Fellows Program
(WASHINGTON, January 16, 2013) -- Independent Sector and American Express are proud to announce that applications are now open for both the American Express NGen Leadership Award and the American Express NGen Fellows program.

The American Express NGen Leadership Award honors one nonprofit professional age 40 or under who has already had a transformative impact on society’s toughest challenges.  Leaders who apply or are nominated must have a proven record getting to the crux of a problem, collaborating as a means to address it, and manifesting real and sustained change as a result of their efforts.  Past recipients include, Darell Hammond, co-founder and CEO of KaBOOM!, Ai-jen Poo, director of the National Domestic Workers Alliance, and Jeff Edmondson, managing director of the Strive Network.

The American Express NGen Fellows Program brings together a diverse cohort of 12 emerging leaders age 40 or under from IS member organizations who have demonstrated exemplary leadership and are committed to applying their skills to increase their impact within the nonprofit and philanthropic sector. Through a 10-month fellowship, the cohort acquires new leadership skills, strengthens professional networks, and develops a collaborative project focused on issues important to young leaders.

Both opportunities reinforce Independent Sector’s commitment to supporting and strengthening the next generation of sector leaders to tackle this country’s most difficult problems, using the best of past practice and inventing bold new solutions.

Visit the IS website to apply. Applications will be accepted through February 25.
