The goal of INDEPENDENT SECTOR's
Nonprofit Leadership Initiative is to build and strengthen the future of the nonprofit sector by cultivating the leadership capacity of
new and developing leaders, especially leaders of color,
and by creating a culture within the sector that invests in its future leadership.
The Nonprofit Leadership Initiative targets both new and developing leaders and organizations throughout the sector that need to cultivate future leaders. Emerging leaders are considered those individuals from every age range and every demographic group who are working in the nonprofit and philanthropic sector and have a long-term commitment to public service. This description includes those who are newcomers to the sector through age or through crossing over from another sector. It also includes
those who, for a variety of reasons, may have been working in the sector but because of gender, ethnicity, geographic isolation, or other social or cultural barriers have had limited leadership
opportunities.
INDEPENDENT SECTOR's strategy will include the sponsorship
or convening of dialogues and briefing related to nonprofit
leadership and the development of an online Resource Center Wherever possible, IS will include building relationships and collaborating with key organizations to achieve the goals of this initiative. |
