NGen | Moving Nonprofit Leaders from Next to Now

 About the NGen Conference Program

What is the NGen Conference Program?

The NGen Conference Program brings together nonprofit and philanthropic leaders, age 40 and under, for networking and professional development. This gathering of more than 120 next generation leaders complements the Independent Sector National Conference by strengthening the capacity of the sector's emerging leaders to contribute to addressing our society's most pressing social challenges.

NGen leaders leave the program with:

  • new relationships and a sense of community with their NGen peers and established sector leaders;
  • skills and concrete tools that can be immediately put to use;
  • more confidence in their leadership abilities and capacities, regardless of position or title;
  • personal and professional insights; and
  • ideas for connecting and collaborating with the NGen Community throughout the coming year.

“Of all the conferences I go to, many of which have an emphasis on aspects of next generation leadership, the IS conference sets itself apart with the thoughtfulness and quality of its NGen program." - Kevin Bolduc, Vice President of Assessment Tools, The Center for Effective Philanthropy

"The NGen experience was eye-opening in many ways, I made connections with many people who are doing incredible things." - Christine Yoon, former Philanthropy Manager, American Express

In 2014, attendees explored two interwoven pathways:

  • Social Change:  How do you build a movement? We’ll show you. Over the course of this pathway, participants will take an in-depth look at a social issue and then get a crash course in collaborative problem solving. But it’s not just theoretical. We’re going to work together to support a real movement selected by the NGen Community.

  • Leadership Skills: Stay sharp by filling your leadership toolbox with actionable skills, unexpected innovations, and a network of change agents. This pathway is strategically designed to give you practical skills and send you home inspired and better prepared. Choose to explore either Narrative Building or Collaborative Action in depth or mix it up to sample a taste of each.

The 2014 NGen Program marked seven years of quality events for leaders age 40 and under at the IS National Conference.
