Public Policy Action Institute
The Public Policy Action Institute (PPAI) is an annual training provided for mid- to senior-level nonprofit policy leaders who want to hone their effectiveness in shaping the laws, regulations, and policies that impact the charitable sector. The fifth annual Public Policy Action Institute, will be held November 8 and the morning of November 9, 2008 and will engage participants in thinking about policy issues key to the nonprofit community while providing opportunities to build peer relationships with other advocates. This year’s Institute will include a special session dedicated to sharing the latest research, strategies, and tools nonprofits can use to strengthen their communications with lawmakers and the media. |

Independent Sector 2008 Annual Conference
Our Hopes, Our Voice, Our Future
Taking place less than a week after the 2008 elections, this year's conference will focus on the best ways for the nonprofit community to use our powerful voice to secure brighter futures for people across the country and around the world. It will bring together 1,000 leaders from throughout our sector to identify and develop creative approaches that our organizations can use to address critical issues during a time of great political, economic, and social change. By examining how charities, foundations, and corporate giving programs can together enhance our work, the conference will highlight how we can better strengthen our communities and fulfill the hopes of millions of people for better lives.

Service to America Medals (Sammies) Award
The Service to America Medals (Sammies) awards program pays tribute to America's dedicated federal workforce, highlighting those who have made significant contributions to our country. Honorees are chosen based on their commitment and innovation, as well as the impact of their work in addressing the needs of the nation. Awardees are announced each fall at a dinner ceremony in Washington, D.C.
