Sherry Rockey joins Independent Sector as Vice President for Resource Development

(Washington, D.C. - August 22, 2005) – Sherry Rockey has joined Independent Sector as vice president for resource development. She will lead IS’s membership and development programs and conference planning.

Ms. Rockey brings 15 years of nonprofit experience in fundraising, strategic planning, policy analysis, and as an executive director to Independent Sector. She spent the last two years as vice president at the consulting firm EnCompass, where she managed projects with several nonprofit organizations and foundations, including the United Nations Foundation, The William and Flora Hewlett Foundation, and PBS.

Before EnCompass, Ms. Rockey served as executive director of International Women’s Media Foundation where she was responsible for orchestrating a financial turnaround of the organization and guiding the expansion of the network of women journalists into 100 countries. Prior to joining IWMF, Ms. Rockey was director of the League of Women Voters Education Fund where she had oversight of grant-funded public education projects and developed a funder outreach plan that doubled the budget in two years.

Ms. Rockey holds a bachelor’s degree in political science from the University of Central Florida and a master’s in comparative politics from American University.

Ms. Rockey has also served on the board of Silver Spring Community Vision and the International Development Conference, as well as on the advisory board of Women in Periodical Publishing.
