Digital Strategies Manager

REPORTS TO: Vice President, Communications
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Play a central role in developing and driving Common Cause’s digital programs, which are essential to the organization’s impact and growth. Responsibilities will include strategy development, creative direction and project management for initiatives spanning the organization’s website, content programs, email, advocacy tools and social media. Work with members of the communications team, national program leads and state chapters to develop email messaging (advocacy and appeals) for national and state chapters. Develop strategies to engage and expand Common Cause’s social channels, using creative methods for content distribution and user engagement. Coordinate with outside vendors on the upcoming CommonCause.org redesign, involving internal stakeholders and keeping the project on time and on budget. Coordinate with finance and development team to ensure accurate and timely reporting of online fundraising activities, and collaborate routinely with national and state organizers to improve the performance of online actions. Research new digital tools and techniques, and make recommendations for implementation
QUALIFICATIONS: The successful candidate will have at least three years experience in online communications at a fast-paced non-profit or political campaign, with solid writing skills. Experience managing digital programs and engaging diverse stakeholders is very important; an enthusiasm for getting the details right is a must. Background in management, mentoring and training will be a critical success factor. Experience working with a content management system, particularly Blackbaud and/or Convio, is strongly preferred. CommonCause.org will be redesigned and will move to the Luminate platform, so experience with that is preferred. Strong writing skills, familiarity with technical, editorial and design elements of online communications and a willingness to learn new skills are also required. Candidates must be detail oriented problem-solvers, able to work fast under tight deadlines. Basic HTML coding and Photoshop skills required.
Pluses: Working knowledge of the legislative process or a background in politics. Personal commitment to public interest issues, and/or previous nonprofit or campaign experience. Video production and editing skills. Experience with front-end web development, such as CSS and JavaScript.
