NGen Fellows Selection Criteria

NGenIf you've already demonstrated exemplary leadership and a passionate commitment to advancing the common good, the American Express NGen Fellows Program provides a forum for developing the awareness, skills and networks that will enhance your impact for years to come.

American Express NGen Fellows are a diverse and talented group of under-40 staff at IS member organizations. Fellows may work at a range of levels within their organization - from chief executive to program officer to project manager. They also may be new to the nonprofit and philanthropic sector, bringing valuable insights from government or business, or have extensive experience through volunteer activities or board service. The program is seeking those who have demonstrated they can exercise leadership in a range of contexts, both through formal titular authority as well as creative deviance when that authority has not been granted.

Each 2013 American Express NGen Fellow will:
  • Demonstrate a commitment to advancing the nonprofit community through collaboration and partnership;
  • Have an established track record of high-impact contributions to the public good;
  • Exhibit continued leadership potential for their organization and, more broadly, for the nonprofit community;
  • Be age 40 or under as of June 2013;
  • Be employed at an Independent Sector member organization as of June 2013; and
