Paul Marchione left Independent Sector in March 2013 become the Managing Director of NETWORK, the national Catholic social justice lobby organization (most famous for last summer’s “nuns on the bus”). Paul joined Independent Sector in July 2009 to oversee community outreach and the advocacy engagement of our members. During his tenure, Paul effectively managed the Public Policy Action Institute held in conjunction with our annual National Conference, and under his leadership, the annual measures for PPAI registration, fundraising, and attendee satisfaction have all increased. Paul also helped develop outreach practices to better engage IS members in our policy and advocacy work. More recently, he assumed responsibility for sharing with the nonprofit community the findings of IS’s recent study Beyond the Cause: The Art and Science of Advocacy.
Mikaela Seligman leaves IS in April 2013 to join AchieveMission, a consulting firm that focuses on strengthening leadership and human capital management in the nonprofit sector. Mikaela joined IS in early 2010 as the Vice President, Nonprofit and Philanthropic Leadership and Practice. She led our efforts on impact and effectiveness, ethics and accountability, leadership and workforce, and the design and implementation of the annual conference. As a key member of IS’s senior management team, Mikaela has made important contributions to organizational strategy, and worked closely with her team in their collaboration with IS members and stakeholders. During her tenure, we saw the work of Charting Impact come to fruition, with her skillful inclusion of key partners at GuideStar and BBB Wise Giving Alliance helping to bring this important resource to the attention of others in the field. She worked with key partners in the sector on our leadership work, and she also worked closely with her very able IS colleagues on our NGen programs.
Jamie Tucker was promoted in March 2013 to Associate Director, Government Relations. Jamie has served as part of the public policy team for more than 5 years, most recently as Manager, Government Relations. During his time here Jamie has helped shape our legislative strategy and has represented IS in meetings with key congressional offices. In his new role, Jamie will take on the additional responsibility of managing some of the processes through which we conduct our advocacy work, including developing Hill outreach strategies, coordinating the participation of IS members in our Hill meetings, and leading the preparation of talking points and other materials for our meetings.
