The Center for Effective Philanthropy (CEP) continues to help funders have a greater impact, including by providing key guidelines for developing strong relationships with their grantees.

Working with Grantees: The Keys to Success and Five Program Officers Who Exemplify Them finds that, among other things, program officers must demonstrate that they understand grantees’ goals and strategies. The report identifies four predictors to productive foundation-grantee relationships and shows those predictors in action by featuring the work of five high-performing program officers.

Working with Grantees is but one of many CEP reports designed to help funders improve their performance. CEP’s mission is to provide data and create insight so philanthropic funders can better define, assess, and improve their effectiveness and impact. CEP delves into issues that are central to funder effectiveness, examining common practice and challenging conventional wisdom.
