PPAI Sunday: A Focus on What’s Next in Washington

The million dollar question in 2013 is: What is going to happen in tax reform? On Sunday at the Public Policy Ation Institute, we will focus on this question, as well as how tax reform will affect the nonprofit and philanthropic sector, and the communities we serve.
With the results of this election, what will the budget and tax priorities in Washington be? Will there be new limits on the charitable deduction? How dramatic will cuts be if the sequestration goes into effect? What will the impact be on our sector?
Moderated by Geoff Plague, director, government relations, Independent Sector, this session will include several experts who will discuss the issues our sector could be facing going forward, as well as how the lame-duck session will affect these issues. These experts will include: Nick Giordano, principal, Washington Council Ernst & Young; Heather Noonan, vice president for advocacy, League of American Orchestras; Sue Santa, senior vice president for public policy, The Philanthropy Roundtable; and Steve Taylor, senior vice president and counsel for public policy, United Way Worldwide. Together, these speakers will help us to piece together what tax reform may look like going forward.
We will also take some time to work in small groups and try and answer the question: What positive changes would you like to see from tax reform in 2013? Tax reform isn’t just about defense – it is also about offense. We will hone in on what we want from tax reform and create the sector’s tax reform wish list.
And don’t forget to join us for breakfast as special guest Jonathan Greenblatt, special assistant to the president and director of the Office of Social Innovation and Civic Participation, will give us his inside-the-Beltway perspective on the role of the nonprofit sector in the White House policymaking process, especially in light of the election results and with an eye toward potential tax reform in 2013.
Can't wait to see everyone – starting on Saturday at 9:00 a.m.!
