in less than 24 hours we will be kicking off the Independent Sector
Annual Conference with the seventh annual Public Policy Action Institute
–- 10 a.m. Tuesday in Atlanta. This pre-conference institute is
bringing together 140 CEOs and senior policy staff from the nation’s
leading nonprofits and foundations. We are excited by the large turnout,
as well as the caliber of the people who have chosen to join us for our
discussions, debates, and strategizing during our day-and-a-half.

It is high time to update laws governing our sector's right to advocate. Even before the Supreme Court ruling in Citizens United v. Federal Election Commission, business had more resources to allocate for such purposes. The Court's decision further lowered the barriers to corporate participation. Why would we too not seek support for increasing our advocacy capacity, in a nonpartisan fashion? I am not talking about entering into the partisan fray, but simply making it possible to advocate more effectively for the causes to which we are committed.
