On November 24, Independent Sector moved into our new offices at 1602 L Street, N.W. In this nine-story building, our offices occupy the top three floors and part of the lower level.

What is most exciting is how this building, located just three blocks from our current offices, will help Independent Sector create a hub for nonprofit innovation and collaboration.

• Owning our building will help us manage our financial resources wisely, which will support our ability to strengthen the work of charities, foundations, and corporate giving programs;
• Our members have said that the nonprofit community can count on us to provide leadership in public policy, and we will be ideally located to continue doing that: we will be within walking distance to the White House, and less than 10 minutes by Metro from Capitol Hill;
• By incorporating better meeting and teleconference facilities, our ability to convene the nonprofit community, both in person and electronically, will be significantly improved, making it easier for us to provide timely updates on a range of areas and to draw on our sector's remarkable expertise;
• We will have space available for staff from our member organizations to use when visiting Washington; and
• We are planning to seek LEED certification, since we believe it is vital for us to conduct our work in an environmentally conscious manner.
