A record-breaking number of leaders from America’s charities, foundations, and corporate philanthropy programs came together November 4-6 in Detroit to create an inspiring 2009 Annual Conference.

Using their collective energy and expertise, more than 1,100 members of the nonprofit and philanthropic community examined how to develop lasting solutions to current conditions and create brighter futures for organizations and the people they serve.

The conference, themed Challenging Times, New Opportunities, was a powerful partnership between Independent Sector and the Council of Michigan Foundations. Its success grew from many features, including:

Music from the Spectacular Host Reception
The conference host reception at the Detroit Institute of Arts featured the Detroit Symphony Orchestra performing Michael Daugherty’s Fire and Blood, with soloist Ida Kavafian and conductor Guillermo Figueroa.
