Attendees of the IS Annual Conference receive a special conference rate of $223 per night single and $235 per night double occupancy. These rates do not include applicable city and occupancy taxes, which are currently14.9%.

The JW Marriot Hotel offers unlimited valet parking. Guests pay $25 per day with unlimited in/out privileges. All others pay $25 per day, per entry.

Washington, DC -- Monuments and More

The District of Columbia was created in 1790 on a site selected by George Washington along the banks of the Potomac River. The new city incorporated parts of Maryland and Virginia, including the existing towns of Alexandria and Georgetown. Transportation

Washington, D.C. is accessible by three major airports and by train. There are also a series of ways to get around town, including car, subway, and taxi.


Traveling By Air

The area's three major airports are:

  • Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport (DCA), about four miles from the conference hotel;
  • Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD), about 25 miles from the conference hotel; and
  • Baltimore-Washington International (BWI) Airport, about 30 miles from the conference hotel.

United Airlines and American Airlines are the official carriers for the 2005 Independent Sector Annual conference.

United Airlines offers a 10 % discount on any tickets purchased before September 21 and a 5 % discount on any tickets purchased after that date. Traveling by Train

Amtrak offers direct service into Washington D.C.’s Union Station, which is approximately four miles from the JW Marriott Hotel and accessible by metro and cab. For Amtrak Reservations call 1-800 USA-RAIL or visit www.amtrak.com.


While in Washington: Metrorail

The Washington subway system -- Metro -- is one of the safest and most efficient ways to get around town. Station entrances are marked by brown pylons, capped with the letter M, and colored stripes indicating which lines are available at that station. Metrorail maps are posted in each station and inside each subway car.

Peak fares are between $1.35 and $3.90, depending on the distance you travel. Metro opens at 5 a.m. Monday through Friday, and at 7 a.m. on Saturday and Sunday. Metro closes at midnight on Sunday through Thursday, and at 3 a.m. on Friday and Saturday. Ground Transportation

From Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport to the Conference Hotel:

  • Metrorail (subway). Take the BLUE LINE in the direction of Largo Town Center, but de-train at Metro Center Station. Exit the Metro Center station at 12th & F Streets. Follow F Street to 14th Street, take a left and walk half a block. The J.W. Marriot Hotel is on the left.

  • Taxi. Approximately $10 to $12 per person, $1.50 for each additional person.

From Dulles International Airport to the Conference Hotel, the JW Marriott Hotel.

  • Metrorail. Take the Washington Flyer Shuttle (see below) to the West Falls Church Metro Station and take the ORANGE line in the direction of New Carrollton. De-train at Metro Center.   • Taxi. Fare is $40 to $50 per person.
  • Shuttle Service:
    Washington Flyer Shuttle. Fare is $8 one-way, per person; $14 round trip to downtown Washington, D.C. For more information, call 703-685-1400.

From Baltimore-Washington International (BWI) Airport to the Conference Hotel:

  • Metrorail (subway) does not run to BWI.
  • MARC Trains, the commuter rail service, operates Monday through Friday from BWI to Union Station. Amtrak runs trains every day. Both provide free shuttles to the airport terminal.     Taxi. Fare is $50 to $60 per person.

From Union Station to the Conference Hotel:

  • Metrorail (subway). Take the RED LINE in the direction of Shady Grove, but de-train at Metro Center. Exit the Metro Center station at 12th & F Streets. Follow Take F Street to 14th Street, take a left and walk half a block. The JW Marriot Hotel is on the left.

If you plan to drive into Washington for the conference, keep in mind that not all garages are open all night or even very late. Here are some parking options:

Taxis
Taxis are available without reservations at all airports and train stations, and are easilly accessible on most city streets. Fares vary according to distance traveled and are based on a zone system.
